Central Oregon Creativity: Bend Soap, Tumalo Cider & Heritage Brand

In honor of our upcoming client event next week, we want to give a shout out to the three companies we’ll be touring and exploring. Bend Soap Company, Tumalo Cider and Heritage Brand are located in Tumalo and creating some pretty incredible, fragrant, tasty and useful products.

If you’re not already familiar with the work they are doing, here’s a little overview of each.

Bend Soap Company

“Located on a 40-acre farm in beautiful Central Oregon, the Johnson Family includes Dwight and Marilee as well as their seven boys and two girls. In addition to enjoying all of the outdoor activities that this area has to offer, they enjoy horseback riding, fiddle playing, tomahawk throwing, target shooting, bike riding, hiking, swimming in the pond, growing hay, raising goats, and making all of the products that people know and love Bend Soap Company for. They are having so much fun in this venture!”

Bend Soap Company has many goats that run the operation. “As our business has grown, so has our need for milk. Consequently, we have expanded our herd and moved it off-site to a remote location that is more accommodating to an ever-increasing goat herd. We also obtain some milk from select goat milk dairies around central Oregon.”

The Story of Their Soap

Dwight had loved the idea of having goats and originally had them for goat’s milk for the kids. In 2007, they got their first goats. When they noticed that one of their sons had eczema, they started to dive in to learning about regular soap and the damaging ingredients many brands had in them. “We’ve always known that the skin is the body’s largest organ, and what you put on your skin is important, but we’d never given much thought about the ingredients that were in the products we were using on our skin. This is when we discovered that not all soaps are created equal and that the products we were applying to Chances skin, such as the soaps and lotions, were contributing to his dry skin. For this reason alone, we believe it’s important to know what your skin is absorbing.”

That’s when the goat’s milk soap was born. Goat’s milk is full of vitamins, proteins, and minerals, is easily absorbed by the body, and has a pH that is relatively close to that of the human body. As they continued to make and use their soap, they noticed benefits for other family members as well.

After that, the word spread and friends and family wanted more soap. So they kept on making it. “It’s been quite a journey since adopting our first milk goats back in 2007, and we’re very excited to share our goat milk soap and other natural skincare products with all of you today. We want you to love your skin… One bar at a time!”

Heritage Brand

Heritage Brand makes beautiful leather hand bags, horse tack, dog collars and more at their location in Tumalo. Their mission is “to be an innovative, leading edge company that is devoted to providing customers with the most fashion-forward, original and high quality leather products on the market today.”

“Before 2002, fancy horse tack consisted of engraved silver conchos, metal lacing, horse hair tassels and rawhide braiding. When the first “crystal conchos” showed up on a bridle at the local barrel race that year, people didn’t quite know how to respond. The idea seemed pretty absurd, yet it was so flashy and fun that people just couldn’t stop staring! By the end of the day they were already getting on board with the brazen new look. Laughs had turned into requests for orders, and the bling tack craze had begun.
We quickly gained a reputation not only for beautiful designs, but for durability and uncompromising quality that set our products apart from other manufacturers. Constantly improving and evolving our processes and materials to ensure we produce only the highest quality products is the Heritage Brand benchmark. These principles helped to solidify our reputation and propel the growth of the business into a global presence within just a few short years.”

Their trademark has always been to create items unique to each individual customer. That still holds true today. Their orders are hand-crafter to the customer’s needs, specs and style.

“Over the years the obsession has grown, and the designs have as well. Heritage Brand designs remain at the forefront of the industry, as our designers relentlessly pursue fresh new looks, with an emphasis on creating products with an enduring style that will continue to appeal for years to come. We are proud of our unyielding conviction for creating only original designs, and have acquiesced to being the standard many companies continue to emulate.”

Heritage Brand is family owned and operated. Learn more about them.
